Changing Your Linksys Router's Password

First, when you enter the router's web-based setup page, you will be asked to log in. The default Linksys router password would be "admin". You should change the default Linksys router password so that you can prevent outside users from using accessing to your router's security, as well as to enable remote management, which is to access to the router without it being presently attached to the computer. In order to change the router's password, you can either run its CD, or change it from the router's web-based setup page. This article will guide you to changing the password the latter way.

First, you must make sure that your router is well connected to the computer through one of the four Ethernet ports. Then, make sure you turn the router on. To enter the web-based setup page, open a web browser like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. Then, at the address bar, type the following: 192.168.1.1. That address would be the default IP address of most of the Linksys router. However, if you have received a different address as it has been changed before, fill in the changed IP address. Then, press Enter.

A window will appear prompting you for your user name and password. Do not key in anything into the user name field, but key in the default one, "admin". Then, click Ok.

Tips On Buying A Cisco CCNA / CCNP Home Lab Kit

Buying a CCNA / CCNP home lab is the best way to be totally prepared for your Cisco exams. Most home labs are put together one router or switch at a time, but many CCNA / CCNP candidates prefer to buy kits where you get multiple routers and switches, along with all the cables and other connection devices you'll need.

While this is a good idea, keep a few things in mind when purchasing Cisco home lab kits.

Router

Don't buy anything you don't need. The problem is that when you're first starting out with your Cisco home lab, you don't know everything that you need. (I sure didn't!) Keep in mind that you only need one transceiver per AUI port on a Cisco router, so if you're getting routers with two AUI ports in all, you don't need five transceivers in the kit. It doesn't hurt to have one spare, but three is a little too much.

More importantly, don't buy kits with old CCNA or CCNP study guides included. I've seen kits with books that were three years old and were of no use to the candidate. If you see a kit that looks good but includes books or manuals you just don't want, ask the vendor for a price that doesn't include the books. "It never hurts to ask.

watch the IOS version. Unless you've got access to IOS upgrades, you'll be working with the IOS version that's on the routers and switches when you buy the kit for a while. You don't necessarily need the latest and greatest IOS version for CCNA study, but don't buy routers with IOS versions beginning with "10" unless you have an IOS to upgrade them with. (And make sure the routers haveenough memory to handle the IOS you plan on putting on them.)

Purchasing a Cisco CCNA / CCNP Home Lab is one of the best investments in your career that you will ever make. Exercise just a bit of caution when purchasing your kit, and you'll be on your way to true Cisco success, in the exam room and on your network!

Why Choose Battery Power Tools?

In this article we are going to discuss power tools. Power tools are basically those tools that work on a motor or electricity. You will also find some tools that work on fuel. There are more than 1000 types of tools that perform various functions and have different calibrations. You will also find cordless or battery power tools that don't need to be plugged into a power source and can work on their on built-in battery.

Older battery powered tools used NiCad (Nickel Cadmium) batteries. These batteries delivered consistent power only over a short period of time, so required continual recharging. The batteries were heavy and added to weight of the tool. You now have battery power tools with combinations of either Nickel Metal Hydrate or Lithium-ion. They last longer, arelighter in weight and don't need to be recharged as often as the older batteries.

The most obvious advantage of battery tools is that they have no cords and offer extra mobility. You can take on any project anywhere, and don't have to worry about a constant power source! Power battery tools help you save time and make you more independent. You don't have to worry about power shortages or black outs! You can work continuously and get your work done in time.

Router

Another advantage of using a battery tool is safety. Without ropes, you don't have to deal with too many wires lying on the floor, people tripping them and gives you a clear space to work. Power battery tools tend to be lighter than other power tools, depending on the types of battery. If you have chosen a tool with a newer, lighter battery you can get your work done faster as the tool will be easier to manage and not mention lighter!

Power tools that run on Lithium-ion batteries work efficiently in colder temperatures. So you don't have to worry about your battery power tools malfunctioning in the cold! Tool manufacturers like Iskra and Makita are always trying to develop sleek, smaller, lighter-weight cordless tools. Power battery tools tend to me more expensive that other powered tools so consider all your options before buying one.

Cisco IPv6 Training-Requesting IPv6 Router (RR) Configuration

Now you the first thing that you need to remember, is that the Requesting router or RR is in most cases located at the customer's location (premises); it's the router that the customer (Site) has either purchased or has been given to them by their ISP.

In real world situations, the RR has 2 main responsibilities; obtaining the Global IPv6 prefix information (configurable parameters) from the ISP's Delegating Router (DR); and then passing that Global IPv6 prefix information (configurable parameters) along through out the customer's location (Site) by using Router Advertisements (RA).

Router

Now, in order for you to configure a Cisco router's upstream interface to act like a Requesting Router (DHCP client) you'll need to perform these 5 steps:

Router>enable Router # configure terminal Router(config) # interface type number Router (config-if) # ipv6 address autoconfig [default] Router (config-if) # ipv6 dhcp client pd prefix-name [rapid-commit]
Steps Explained:

Step # 1: Router > enable

Puts the router into Privileged Exec mode

Step # 2: Router # configure terminal

Puts the router into Global Configuration mode

Step # 3: Router (config) # interface serial 0/0

Allows, the RR to enter interface configuration mode for the serial 0/0 interface.

Step # 4: Router (config) # ipv6 address autoconfig default

Allows, the RR router's serial 0/0 interface to automatically configure its own IPv6 address (es) by using Stateless Autoconfiguration. The word "default" is used to tell the serial 0/0 interface toinstall a default route into the RR's routing table; the default route indicates the upstream interface (serial 0/0) and the ISP's Delegating Router's interface.

Step # 5: Router (config-if) # ipv6 dhcp client comcast dhcp-pd-prefix rapid-commit

Enables the router's serial RR 0/0 interface to begin acting as a DHCPv6 client; and also forces the interface to start requesting an IPv6 Prefix (es) from the ISP's Delegating Router. The word "rapid-commit" is telling the interface (serial 0/0) to use the two-message DHCPv6 exchange method to ask for the IPv6 Prefix (es).

Now, just in case if you were wondering, the words "comcast-dhcp-prefix" used in the command is the name of the prefix.

I invite you to visit my website were you'll find the latest information regardingCisco IPv6 Design and Implementation Techniques.

To your success,

How to Convert Your Old Router Into a Wireless Access Point

You ask why you would want to do this. Well the two main reasons are, if you require more then four computers wired into your network, this normally means buying a network hub or a network switch. The other reason is to extend your wireless access range, if your single keeps dropping out or you're out of range of the router. This is normally a cheaper alterative to buying expensive access points or switches.

If you're looking into extending your wireless access range you will need to make sure you have a long enough cable that will reach from where you want the old router to be located to the current location of the main router. This is because the two routers are going to hard wired together so that the old router acts like an access point rather then a router.

Router

Once you have figured out where you want to place the old router, you will have to connect to it via wireless or wired connection to change the settings to allow it to be used as access point. When you are connected to the router you will need to log onto the router, the IP address for routers aren't always the same. This is one way you can find your IP router, go to the windows start button, click it then click run, then the text box pops up type in "cmd" then it click run or press enter, then the command prompt opens type "ipcongfig/all" this will show you a list of connections made on your computer.

Look for the wireless or wired connect name in the list that is created and look for the IP address next to "Default gateway" this is the routers IP address. Now enter the IP address intoyour web browser and you should see the login page for your router, if you haven't picked a password for your router then the main username is "admin" and the main common passwords are "admin" or "password" this should log you in if not you will have to find the password for that type of router.

Once logged into find the part of the router that has the option to disable (a tick) enable DHCP Server, this will tell the router NOT to give the computers attached to it IP address and instead will pass the computers connection to the next device which will be the main router that connects to the internet and that router will give the computer an IP address.

Beware, if you want to set up any other settings on the router like wireless access key passwords or router passwords, best todo it now because some times the old router will be giving a IP range that you can't connect to or see easily and if you want to change the wireless password without knowing the IP of the router once its connected to the main router you will have to reset the router to default by pressing the reset switch located on the old router and start the process from scratch.

Once the settings have changed and saved reboot the router and connect the old router to the main router that connects to the internet, all you have to do is use one of the available Ethernet socket on the main router and place it into one of the sockets on the old router, I use socket 1 on both devices so I don't mix up the connections when added new computers to the network.
